Kentucky is doing a better job than most of the country dealing with the nursing shortage, with the vacancy rate of only 7 percent statewide for nursing jobs. Pikeville Medical Center in Eastern Kentucky recently boasted a vacancy rate of just 2 percent. These numbers can be credited to the fact that Kentucky hospitals do a good job at recruiting RNs from neighboring states, and nursing colleges have been doing a better job keeping up with demand for more qualified nursing students.
