Transplant nurses care for both the transplant recipients and their (living) donors before, during and after surgery, being especially vigilant for signs of organ rejection. Professional organizations for transplant nurses include the International Transplant Nurses Society (ITNS), the American Society of Transplantation (AST) and the International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation (ISHLT). The American Board for Transplant Certification (ABTC) maintains several credential exams, including the Certified Clinical Transplant Nurse (CCTN) credential. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts excellent, overall job growth for registered nurses. The median registered nurse salary is $62,450.
