Hospitals in the Dallas area seem to be doing a better job at keeping nursing jobs filled than the rest of Texas, with a total hospital staffing vacancy rate much lower than the statewide rate of 11 percent. However, the rate for RNs was a little higher, and the nursing shortage is still a major concern. A recent law will address this issue by providing $30 million in funding to increase enrollment at nursing schools so qualified applicants stop getting turned down. This will be a great aid to hospitals where nurses are being overworked because of a lack of staff. Major hospitals in Dallas include Parkland Memorial Hospital, Baylor University Medical Center, and Medical City Hospital.
