Telemetry nurses monitor the heart rate, breathing, blood pressure and blood-oxygen levels through machines that are hooked up to the patients, who have often just gone through cardiac surgery and/or have been downgraded from the intensive care unit. Professional organizations for telemetry nurses include the American College of Cardiovascular Nurses (ACCN). The American Board of Cardiovascular Medicine maintains the Advanced Nurse Practitioner Cardiology Board Certification Exam (CVNP), the Non-Acute Cardiovascular Nurses Board Certification Exam (CVRN) and the Acute Cardiovascular Nurses Board Certification Exam (CVRN). The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts excellent, overall job growth for registered nurses. The median registered nurse salary is $62,450.
