Texas School Nursing Jobs
There is a clear gap between the supply and the demand for Texas nursing jobs. Like elsewhere, Texas is suffering from a shortage of nurses, to the tune of 70,000 by 2020. The State Legislature is working on a number of bills to improve training capacity so that they can fill many of these Texas nursing jobs. Though the bulk of the nursing jobs in Texas are located in the Dallas and Houston areas, there is a clear need for nurses throughout the State.

School nurses are registered nurses or licensed practical/vocational nurses that provide care, screenings and immunizations for students and staff, as well as prepare emergency action plans, promote a safe and healthy school environment and encourage healthy lifestyle choices. The National Board for Certification of School Nurses (NBCSN) maintains the Certification Examination for School Nurses, and registered nurses who pass this exam are eligible to use the credential NCSN. The major professional organization for school nursing is the National Association of School Nurses. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts excellent, overall job growth for registered nurses. The median registered nurse salary is $62,450.
