Pediatric intensive care nurses, or PICU nurses, are critical care nurses that have specialized in caring for seriously ill children in the pediatric intensive care unit (PICU). PICU nurses include pediatric nurse practitioners and clinical nurse specialists. Professional organizations for pediatric nursing include the Society of Pediatric Nurses. The Pediatric Nursing Certification Board (PNCB) maintains several certification exams, including Certified Pediatric Emergency Nurse (CPEN), Certified Pediatric Nurse (CPN), and Acute Care CPNP. The latter two are both accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA).
