There is a great need to create and fill more nursing jobs in New Hampshire, but there is currently a shortage. This is not due to a lack of interest in nursing, but rather a lack of faculty to teach qualified applicants at nursing schools and hospitals. Recent efforts have been made to expand programs and add nursing courses online, but with the average age of RNs being almost 50 in the state, more will need to be done to make up for an aging workforce.

A pediatric nurse practitioner (PNP) provides primary and specialty care to children and adolescents. To become a PNP, a registered nurse must earn a Masters degree or higher, become recognized as an advanced practice nurse by the state and become a certified pediatric nurse practitioner. Professional organizations include the Society of Pediatric Nurses. The Pediatric Nursing Certification Board (PNCB) maintains the following certifications: Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (CPNP) and Acute Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (CPNP-AC).
