Nursing Informatics
Nursing informatics combines nursing science with computer science for the development, implementation and evaluation of clinical nursing information systems to improve the decision-making processes by medical providers and patients alike. Professional organizations for nurse informaticists include the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA), the American Nursing Informatics Association (ANIA), the American Telemedicine Association (ATA) and the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS). The American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) maintains the Informatics Nursing Certification Exam, which is accredited by both the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) and the Accreditation Board for Specialty Nursing Certification (ABSNC).
