Nurse educators develop and implement educational programs for both student nurses and RNs. These programs include those required for certification or certification renewal, as well as continuing education programs for registered nurses wishing to advance their degrees. The National League for Nursing (NLN) maintains the Certified Nurse Educator (CNE) credential program, which is accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA). Nurse educators are in high demand: The nursing shortage is in large part due to the shortage of qualified nurse educators. This demand is expected to grow as many current nurse educators retire.
