The nursing shortage in Indiana is one of the worst in the nation, and nursing jobs in hospitals and nursing homes need to be filled soon to avoid a crisis. The Indiana Health Care Association recently found that the vacancy rate for RNs in the state.s nursing homes was the worst in the U.S. An aging workforce and low retention are some of the main problems. However, federal money has recently been given to three Indiana universities to increase faculty at nursing schools and bring additional nurses to critical need facilities.
