With health care ranking as the third largest employment sector in the Chicago area, nursing jobs are plentiful. However, the city is experiencing a major workforce shortage, one that is set to grow dramatically through 2020. According to the U.S. Health Resources and Services Administration, the metropolitan Chicago area has a shortage of more than 2,500 nurses, and this could grow to 21,000 statewide by 2020. Roughly two-thirds of these vacancies will be in the Chicago area. Chicago.s largest hospitals include: Northwestern Memorial Hospital, University of Chicago Hospitals, and Rush University Medical Center.
