There are plenty of nursing jobs available in Boston, many in long-term care facilities, veteran.s hospitals and local health clinics. However, because of the down economy, there has been a decline in the number of job vacancies at some hospitals recently, especially teaching facilities. The need for nurses is still expected to grow, though, with many hospitals currently seeking nurses with specialized experience. Some of the top hospitals in the Boston area include: Massachusetts General Hospital, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, and New England Baptist Hospital.
Emergency-trauma nurses provide rapid, initial assessment and treatment for patients. Because emergency-trauma nurses treat patients of all ages suffering from an extensive range of illnesses and injuries, they must be able to recognize and treat a wide variety of ailments, quickly and efficiently. The Board of Certification for Emergency Nursing (BCEN) offers certification as a Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN), Certified Flight Registered Nurse (CFRN), Certified Transport Registered Nurse (CTRN) and Certified Pediatric Emergency Nurse (CPEN). BCENs CEN and CFRN certification credentials have been accredited by the American Board of Nursing Specialties (ABNS).
