Maine is facing the same problem as many other Northeast states when it comes to nursing jobs: Too many patients, not enough nurses. As one of the most rural states in the nation, the nursing shortage has the potential to seriously impact the delivery of health care to the population. There is a projected shortage of 5,200 nurses during the next 15 years. RNs, LPNs, and Nurse Midwives are in great demand in both Maine.s urban and rural areas.
Emergency-trauma nurses provide rapid, initial assessment and treatment for patients. Because emergency-trauma nurses treat patients of all ages suffering from an extensive range of illnesses and injuries, they must be able to recognize and treat a wide variety of ailments, quickly and efficiently. The Board of Certification for Emergency Nursing (BCEN) offers certification as a Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN), Certified Flight Registered Nurse (CFRN), Certified Transport Registered Nurse (CTRN) and Certified Pediatric Emergency Nurse (CPEN). BCENs CEN and CFRN certification credentials have been accredited by the American Board of Nursing Specialties (ABNS).
