San Antonio, like most cities in Texas, continues to have a shortfall of nurses and is seeking qualified candidates for available nursing jobs. This is good news for increasing numbers of nursing graduates, but is making it difficult on area hospitals that need more nursing faculty and staff to keep up with demand. A few of the largest hospitals in San Antonio include Methodist Hospital, Baptist Medical Center, and Southwest General Hospital.
Emergency nurses, or trauma nurses, provide rapid, initial assessment and treatment for patients. Because emergency nurses treat patients of all ages suffering from an extensive range of illnesses and injuries, emergency nurses must be able to recognize and treat a wide variety of ailments, quickly and efficiently. The Board of Certification for Emergency Nursing (BCEN) offers certification as a Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN), Certified Flight Registered Nurse (CFRN), Certified Transport Registered Nurse (CTRN) and Certified Pediatric Emergency Nurse (CPEN). BCEN?s CEN and CFRN certification credentials have been accredited by the American Board of Nursing Specialties (ABNS).
