Diabetes management nurses are registered nurses that help patients manage their diabetes by teaching them about nutrition, how to check their blood sugar levels and how to administer insulin injections. Diabetes management nurse certification is voluntary but preferred by employers. The Advanced Diabetes Management Certification Program was developed by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) and the American Association of Diabetes Educators (AADE), and registered nurses that pass the certification exam earn the credential BC-ADM. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts excellent, overall job growth for all registered nurses, with 22% growth expected between 2008 and 2018.
