Cardiac nurses care for patients who have problems with their heart and other related systems. These problems include conditions such as unstable angina, cardiac dysrhythmias, congested heart failure, and myocardial infarctions. Cardiac nurses have specialized skills, and practice within a sub-specialty area of nursing. Unlike nurses who work in other specialties, cardiac nurses know how to monitor telemetry patients, and they have a working knowledge about advanced cardiac life support and IV cardiac medications. Cardiac nurses work in hospitals, clinics, and they work in variety of areas such as CCU, ICU, Cardiac Cath labs, operating rooms, and Cardiac rehab. Cardiac nurses also work as home health nurses, caring for patients who are recovery from cardiac procedures and surgery.
