Psychiatric Nursing

Psychiatric mental health nurses care for patients that suffer from personality and mood disorders and include both the registered nurses and the advanced practice nurses that have chosen to work in the mental health field. The American Nurses Credentialing Center maintains the following credentials: Adult Psychiatric and Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC), Family Psychiatric and Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC), Adult Psychiatric and Mental Health Clinical Nurse Specialist (PMHCNS-BC) and more. The major professional organization for psychiatric mental health nursing is the American Psychiatric Nurses Association (APNA). The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts excellent, overall job growth for registered nurses. The median registered nurse salary is $62,450.
