Vermont Occupational Health Nursing Jobs
With more than three quarters of nurses in Vermont age 45 or older, there is an evident need for a new crop of nurses to fill nursing jobs in the near future. The nursing shortage is not as severe in Vermont as it is elsewhere, but with more than half of the nursing industry planning to retire by 2020, it will definitely feel the pinch soon. The state has already prepared for this by offering financial incentives for nurses to pursue graduate studies and go into teaching, which will help expand nursing programs and lessen the projected shortage.

Occupational Health Nursing
Occupational health nurses work with employers to help prevent job-related injuries and illnesses and implement health and safety programs, including disaster planning and emergency preparedness. The American Board for Occupational Health Nurses (ABOHN) offers four credentials: Certified Occupational Health Nurse (COHN), Certified Occupational Health Nurse ? Specialist (COHN-S), Case Management (CM) and Safety Management (SM). These occupational health nursing credentials are accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) and the American Board for Nursing Specialties (ABNS). The major professional organization for occupational health nurses is the American Association of Occupational Health Nurses Inc (AAOHN). According to PayScale, the median occupational health nurse salary is $52,822-$70,403.
