June 20th, 2007 | The Wind Beneath Our Wings: A Look at Nursing Research

You just never know what you will find on the internet!
I headed over to the National Institute of Nursing Research to see what I might find for today’s column.
As expected, I found a plethora of information.
What I did not expect was to find an online class entitled Developing Nurse Scientists.
Described as “general research training for nurse scientists who are in the early stages of their career development”, the class is free and CEUs are offered!
Now, given my ADN education and my participation in only a couple of research projects, I’m pretty sure I qualify as being in the “early stages” of my career development where research is concerned. But with a doctorate in my future, research will be a large part of my career.
Good reason for me to take the online course.
But…what good is information unless it is shared?
I’ll be sharing what I have learned right here in this column over the next few weeks.
There is so much that goes into morphing a research project out of the idea stage and into a published study.
I don’t know a lot about that process and I can imagine there might be some nurses out there in the same boat.
The more I look at nursing research, the more interesting it becomes.
I hope I can share some of my newfound enthusisam with the readers of the NJO blog.

The National Institute of Nursing Research is part of the National Institutes of Health and was established in 1986. Per the Wikipedia entry for the NIH, the goal of the NINR to supports “clinical and basic research to establish a scientific basis for the care of individuals across the life span”.
Sounds like nursing to me!
So, let’s get started - first installment next Wednesday!

And it’s FREE! and there are CEUs! I’m all over this. Thanks, Kim.
[…] Although the topic of this post has to do with an aspect of nursing research, it should not be confused with my nursing research column over at Nursing Jobs.org. As a matter of fact, in a sudden fit of shameless self-promotion, I’ll mention that my last column on nursing research discusses a free online class that helps develop nurse scientists. […]
